My 2010 Tour Journal

Monday, August 23, 2010
Exsqueese Me... My Birthday Month is over and I need to catch up with all that has happened to me, my tree stump, and that storyteller-person-lady, Glenda Bonin. The entire summer was wicked-awesome! I got to spend time in Tum Tum, WA with family and they showed me lots of birds (most of which I need to hide from, so I don't get eaten), the birds where fun to watch. After that we drove to Kalispell, MT and got ready for the last part of our Northwest tour. We did our first show in Kalispell, and our friend Judy (who is not a frog) video taped it for us. The newspaper said we would have another show at 4, the same day, but was wrong. The good news was that the people did come back the next day and were happy they did. Our show in Columbia Falls was a whole bunch of fun, and we saw more chicken art (see that storyteller-person-Glenda Bonin tweets or Facebook to see photos). Our last show was in Whitefish and some of the folks from Kalispell came all the way up to see us again! That was the nicest thing ever! We drove back to Tucson, AZ and two days later got on a plane and flew to Pennsylvania, where I did my very first show last year. While we did not have a show, fans still ask about me. heh, heh. I feel special. On Saturday August 21, we did our last show of this season at the Martha Cooper Library, here in Tucson. While it is sad to see summer end, I must say that I am swimming like a pro. I'll be starting Squirrley Shirley's Sparklettes tryouts in the near future. If you are interested, please contact that storyteller-person-lady Glenda Bonin. Thank you all for a wonderful time.
Love, Shirley

WOWI can't believe all the wonderful places I've seen, here in Washington. Wednesday we went to Tumwater for a show in the afternoon. Super crowd! What could top that? I jumped in a lake! It was warm and everyone here said it was hot. They need to visit Arizona this time of year. Our last day of Timberland Libraries was yesterday. In the morning we set up in the beautiful atrium at the Olympia Library. Lots of people came and I saw a little hand I had stamped in Tumwater the day before. What a compliment to have someone follow me to another performance, thank you. We took a leisurely drive to McCleary and got my last Timberland Library Passport stamp. Glenda and I had wonderful time with audience and I am hope to be able to come back to Washington soon!
Love, your friend, Squirrel Shirley.

I hope everyone had a terrific 4th of July weekend. I certainly did, and I got to shoot off some fireworks, with that story-teller-person-lady-Glenda Bonin, who made sure I stayed safe. Tomorrow it's back to work as we head to Centralia for two shows. We hope to see you at either 1pm or 3pm, you will have a blast. Trust the Squirrel.

Time flies when you are having fun, I am having a blast! That story-teller-person-lady Glenda Bonin and I drove from Reno, NV for 11 hours to a neat RV resort called 7 Feathers and collapsed. We were both very tired. The next day we camped in Toledo, WA and prepared for our series of shows in Washington. What big trees they have here, and they are everywhere. On Tuesday, June 29, we drove to Packwood, WA and did our thing. What a pretty library. Next we went to the Mountain View Library in Randle, WA and I got some ice cream. They also had a marquee with my name on it, WAY COOL!I will post pictures of these libraries so you can look at them. Wednesday we were in Oakville and got a passport for the Timberland Regional Libraries. You can win neat prizes if you attend lots of the libraries. That afternoon we went to Sulkum and had another great time. Thursday took us to Chehalis and the Vernetta Smith Library where 101 people let us entertain them. On the other side of the scale, that afternoon in Winlock (a town with lots of chicken sculptures) we had a small, but mighty crowd of active listeners. All in all, Wahsington is a great state, I am ready to move here.

Yikes-They have a lake here, a ginormous one! My head is spinning! Since the last time we spoke (heh, heh) I've been working my tail off. On Wednesday we started at the South Valleys Library with a wonderful audience. Then we headed to Incline Village, on Lake Tahoe. I could live there, really. It was cool with lots of really big trees, again the librarian was great and talked us through all the construction, when we got lost. Thursday was another busy day, first at the Northwest Reno Library and then over to Sparks. We have been all over the valley and it sure is pretty. Today we have our final show in Verdi, just outside of Reno. This library is with the Nature Center and was Totally Awesome with fish on the wall, a tree (I sorta wanted to trade mine in) and a really cute boy squirrel. Thank you Friends of the Libraries for bringing us to Washoe County. Don't forget to download the 3 coloring book pages. Love, Squirrely Shirley

Good Grief! What happened to Tuesday? Oh wait, I remember, we had 3 different shows at 3 different libraries. The Sierra View Library was first with lots of little, cute children. They got pretty excited about me and wanted to visit inside my tree, but I wasn't ready for visitors. Next, we were in the really neat auditorium at the downtown library. I was center stage, and the children sat in a magic circle around the tree. After that, we zoomed up to the North Valleys Library. The show was a blast, and everyone had a great time (even the big boss who came to check us out). I hardly had energy to eat dinner. Boy, that story-teller-lady-person is something to do this all the time. I am having a great adventure and all the librarians are really nice.
